He stated that ISOC promised to sponsor 2-3 delegates from Armenia at INET'96. It was decided that major armenian ISPs representatives should be send to INET'96. The heads of ISPs were asked to chose candidates, fill the ISOC application forms and send them to I. Mkrtoumian. New subdomains applications were considered: from Worldbank, State University of Nagorno-Karanakh and Medical Library. The agenda of the meeting was: 1. Problem of receiving new class C IP addresses 2. Transfer of AM TLD zone file to Armenia 3. Discussion of the state of affaires in the AM domain 4. News of AM domain The problem of receiving class C IP addresses was raised by Infocom because their service provider, Canadian Teleglobe, can not provide class C IP addresses. It was stated that in cases like that it is necessary to send a request for calss C IP adresses with the filled templates to the AmIUG, namely, I. Mkrtoumain, imkrtoum@aua.am. The AmIUG will request class C in the last resort which is ROSNIIROS. It was also stated that the problem of dynamic routing is becoming more and more serious for Armenian ISPs. Providing a dynamic routing should be a necessary service for them. The problem of AM TLD zone transfer to one of Armenian name servers was discussed. It was stated that the AM TLS zone file should be placed in one of Armenain service providers name servers, i. e. YerPhI, Arminco, NAS or Infocom. The problem had to be discussed again because none of the Armenian ISP is ready to administer it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NETWORK NEWS * ARMINCO. ARMINCO is now connected to Infocom's 64 Kbps line too and sends a part of its traffic through that line. ARMINCO's users sensed that immediately by increased speed of www, gopher and ftp operaitions. ARMINCO installed Spark 5-110 as ns.aic.net and CISCO 2511 router. * INFOCOM INFOCOM is growiing steadily. In the interview with the Director of Infocom Mr. David Rostomian he said that the INFOCOM is going to upgrade its 64 Kbps channel to 2Mbps in three months. It will be a wonderfull event for Armenian Internet users because it will bring teleconferencing and Internet multimedia to Armenia. * YERPHI YERPHI is planning to connect to their antenna several institutes by ARLAN radiobridges working on 2.4 GHz frequency. The project had already received the Frequency Inspection approval. * SCI NAS connected several NAS institutes to their LAN and provided all of them the on-line Interent capability. * AUA AUA received an official permission from the Ministry of Communications to use 2.4 GHz frequency for a radiomodem communication link. AUA opened its WWW server www.aua.am. New version of SunOS 4.2.5 is received. * SEUA SEUA request for class C IP addresses is sent to YerPhI. * MEDLIB MEDLIB request for class C IP addresses is sent to YerPhI. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ POLICY * PROBLEMS OF DATA TRANSFER OUTSIDE ARMENIA The AmIUG Council members expressed the anxiety with the State monopoly on data transfer outside Armenia. It was noted that the lack of competition can bring to stagnation and high prices in Internet services. The opinion was expressed that the AmIUG should address the ministry of Commuication with the request to reconsider their earlier decision and provide licences for data transfer outside Armenia to other ISPs without any restriction. * COPYRIGHT PROBLEM Recently a copyright problem was intensively discussed between AUA and Arminco because the AUA put some Matenadaran information on its WWW server. The information was a copy of a widely distributed booklet about Matenadaran which were sold in magazine stands. The author of the booklet was named in the pages and the AUA didn't consider it a copyright violation. The AUA considers that the more information about Armenia is put on the Armenian WWW servers the better it will be for Armenia. However there are some questions to be clarified for future in order to avoid such disputes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ INET'96 The AmIUG received 3 applications for INET'96 workshop from: A. Gulkhasian (YerPhI) G. Saghian (Arminco) V. Sahakian (NAS) Their applications with the recommendation letter of AmIUG were sent to the INET'96 organisational committee. A. Hakobian from AUA applied independently. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PUBLICATIONS OF NOTE (from ISOC FORUM) * Exploring JAVA.
